Summer Reading Challenge

Our Summer Reading Challenge is now underway! Readers of any age are invited to join in and help our community unlock awesome prizes, like baseball tickets and a Ozobot robot for check out. As of July 1, 2019, participants have collectively read: 191 minutes. We’ve only got until the end of August to reach 10,000 minutes read. Volunteer Interns and Leadership Interns

Are you interested in volunteering with children or interested in children’s books? We have opportunities for teens and adults ages 12 and up to volunteers with the children’s department year round. During the summer, we offer many area teens the opportunity to volunteer with kids. There’s even the opportunity to make a little money as a Leadership intern! Register for Spring Children’s Programs

From baby and toddler story hours to STEAM clubs to slime workshops, our Spring schedule is full of fun and educational children’s programs. For your best chance to join the fun, register during our lottery registration period, STARTING TODAY, March 28! Even if you’ve been part of our programs before, everyone must register to continue with programs. Lottery registration ends April 3 with rolling registration, as space is available to follow. Spring Children’s Programs begin April 8th. Programs run eight weeks, April 8-June 1st.  

Check out our Spanish Leveled Readers!

We are excited to announce the launch of the complete Spanish Leveled Readers book collection in the Pawling Library! This collection is designed for anyone learning to read in Spanish, no matter the age. This collection of over 100 children’s books has been organized using the same program that the Pawling School district uses to level books for student reading. New readers start at Level A, with short stories using simple vocabulary, and work their way through the alphabet. The collection features books in levels A-M using the Fountas and Pinnell leveling system. Many of the books are bilingual, in Spanish and English, and are a great tool for continuing Spanish or bilingual language literacy. “We added the collection because we want our community to know that language literacy is important no matter what language you speak. Register for Winter Children’s Programs

Registration is now open for Winter 2019 Children’s Programs. It’s cold outside, but warm in the library! Free, educational, and fun programs are available for children birth-fourth grade. This program cycle will run nine weeks from January 19 – March 23. Lottery registration will run January 9-15, with rolling registration to follow as space is available. For more information, or to register, visit our Registration portal at http://www.pawlingfreelibrary.org/children/programs/ Due to space restraints, registration is required for most programming. Singing Books Concert : Lydia Adams Davis

Saturday 12/15, 4:00-5:00 pm – at the Holmes Whaley Lake Civic Association (239 Route 292, Holmes, New York, 12531) Free for all ages! Caregiver required to attend with children under 10. Musician and puppeteer Lydia Adams Davis will perform selections of her own music as well as sing-along favorites during this live, interactive concert for all ages. Davis’ performances have been praised by The New York Times, “Best of the Hudson Valley”, and more. Event will be proceeded by a Songwriting class, taught by Lydia, for grades K-4. Free Stuffed Animal Making

There are some last minute openings in our FREE BUILD-A-BEAR style program! Every child leaves with a free stuffed penguin they’ve created themselves. Open to children 2.5 – 6 years. Interested in joining? Call the library at 845-855-3444 to see if the spaces are still available. Saturday, 11/10, 4:30-5:30 pm – Ms. Neena, Main Library and Annex As the weather gets colder, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good story and a good friend! Find both during Penguin Pals. We will read and sing our favorite penguin stories and songs and end the day with a new penguin friend, stuffed at the library, Build-A-Bear style. A caregiver is required to remain during this program.  

It’s PARTY TIME! The Beautiful Elephant

Saturday, November 3, 2018, 5:30 pm-6:15 pm– Main Library It’s time to party! Celebrate the release of a new local children’s book with us! Stop in for light refreshments, children’s activities, and the first ever library reading of “The Beautiful Elephant!” This wonderful story highlights the importance of loving yourself, and self care; great messages for children and caregivers alike. Local author/illustrator team Jennifer Lohrfink Morfea and Erik Draw will be in the library to read the story aloud and demonstrate how they create the words and pictures together. We will have crafts, a raffle for prizes, and even snacks–all free! Families with children of all ages are welcome, but the book will be of most interest to children ages 6 and up. An adult must remain in the library with children under ten at all times.

NEW LOCATION: Glow-in-the-dark slime!

Our glow-in-the-dark slime program scheduled for 10/27/18, from 2:00-3:00 pm has been moved from it’s original location! Now, we will be making slime at Pawling’s Lakeside Park Recreation Center in the Green Parlor as part of the Center’s Trick or Treat Halloween event.
