Book Sale Volunteers Needed

The Pawling Library is holding its annual book sale May 7/8 and 14/15 and we need volunteers to help with set up and break down. This is a great opportunity for teens to earn community service hours! The sale will take place in the Lathrop Building at Lakeside Park. Set up is Thursday, May 5th (11:00 – 5:00, 7:00-9:00 PM) and Friday, May 6th (9:00 – 4:00). Breakdown is Sunday, May 15th, starting at 3:00 PM. Volunteers can come at any time during these hours. It would be helpful if we know ahead of time how many people we might expect but it’s ok if volunteers stop by when they find time. Please call the library, 855-3444, for more information or to sign up to volunteer.

Centennial Jazz Concert

The Pawling Library is hosting a free jazz concert on the Village Green on Saturday May 22nd, 1-3 PM. Why is the Pawling Library kicking off its year-long centennial celebration with a New Orleans Jazz band? Because in 1921, when the library received its Charter from the New York State Board of Education, what was known then as Dixieland Jazz, was all the rage all over the country! In the early twentieth century, the Great Migration of talented Black and Creole musicians who left New Orleans to seek a better life in the north, brought this vibrant musical genre to Chicago, Philadelphia and New York. And what better way to celebrate our one hundred years of service to our community than to shout out our excitement with this “brassy” introduction to our thrilling year of programming and events brought to you by the generosity of the Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust. While you’re celebrating with us, dance on over to the information tent where we will be sharing our program schedule for...

Book Sale

Thank you, Pawling, for your support!

The Pawling Library Board of Trustees would like to thank the community of Pawling for their outstanding support at our 2018 Annual Book Sale. Held at the Pawling Firehouse, the sale took place over two weekends beginning May 12th and grossed nearly $12,000 dollars. These much-needed funds go directly back to the library and are used to offset operating costs. For Trustee and Book Sale Committee member Karen Franco, one of the best parts of the book sale is “seeing people’s excitement and pleasure when they find favorite authors or new treasures in the incredible collection of 35,000 books that were donated during the course of the year. We love seeing these wonderful books getting recycled back into readers’ hands instead of ending up in a landfill.” If you were at the book sale, we likely asked you to sign our petition to place the library’s budget on the November 2018 ballot. This was our first foray into signature gathering and we were encouraged and heartened by the number of people willing to support our library....
