Red Popsicle

Popsicle Party

On Thursday June 15th the Pawling Library will host a popsicle party for the families of Pawling. This will be an opportunity for you to meet our new children’s program team, Neena McBaer and Martina Marchese. Feel free to drop by any time between 4 and 5 PM in order to meet Neena and Martina and to have a popsicle. We will also have crayons and Legos out for the children (and adults!) to use. If you are able to RSVP in advance (by emailing children@pawlinglibrary.org), it would help us figure out how many popsicles to buy. If you are not able to RSVP, please come anyway! If you have any questions about the children’s summer programs or about registration, Miss Neena will be on hand to answer them. Remember that registration for summer programs will take place June 13th through June 19th. Applications can be downloaded here or picked up at the library.

2017 Summer Interns

Calling All Summer Interns

The library’s new children’s program coordinator, Miss Neena, is busy planning programs for this summer. In order to make this summer a success, she is going to need help from some of our teen and tween library users. If you are between the ages of 12 and 18, you are welcome to apply to our summer internship program. Interns help out during the summer to make sure that everyone who participates in summer reading and activities has a wonderful and successful experience. If you are interested in becoming a summer intern, please fill out an internship application. You can download it here. Please bring completed applications to the library by Tuesday June 13th. If you have questions, you can email Neena at children@pawlinglibrary.org

Ezra Jack Keats Foundation Mini-Grant

The Pawling Library received a mini-grant from the Ezra Jackson Keats Foundation, an organization which supports literacy and creative expression in children.  Out of hundreds of applicants, 64 teachers and librarians across the country, including Kate, our Young Adult Program Coordinator, were awarded a mini-grant to fund a unique and creative program for students this year. With the grant, the library is able to offer a Teen Zine Publishing program this summer. Teens will learn about the history of zines and self-publishing, and will create their own zine containing original art and creative writing. By the end of the summer they will have a finished product to bring home and to distribute to the community.

Project Do Something takes a Recess

With the end of the school year approaching, Project Do Something, a program in which teens do small but impactful projects to benefit the community, will be taking a brief recess so that students can focus on end of the year exams. Project Do Something will begin meeting again this summer. Don’t worry, though. There are still volunteer opportunities for teens in 7th grade and up at the Pawling Library. Contact Kate about becoming a Library Legion and volunteering at the library on your own schedule. We are also seeking teen volunteers for our annual Book Sale. Volunteers are needed Wednesday, May 10 thru Wednesday, May 17. Contact Kate for more information or to sign up as a volunteer.

Spring Programs for Teens

The spring schedule is out for teen programs! Teens in 5th thru 12th grade are invited to call or stop by the library to register. Programs will start on April 10 and go until June 16. You can check out the full schedule here. Don’t forget that we are also still recruiting for Battle of the Books!

It’s Hard to Say Goodbye

It is with much emotion that the Pawling Library announces the departure of our longtime Children’s Program Coordinator, and friend, Karen DeGennaro. The library is grateful for Ms. Karen’s dedication to our library family, and to the families she has served for the last nine years. Under her guidance, our children’s programming has grown by leaps and bounds, and thanks to Ms. Karen, our library’s youngest patrons have gained a strong foundation in early literacy. Since 2010, Ms. Karen has been steadily growing the library’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) programming with innovative classes that encourage youngsters to explore, tinker, and be curious about the world in which they live. With the solid foundation that Ms. Karen has brought to our children’s programming, The Pawling Library will continue with and build upon these inventive, cutting edge classes. We firmly believe that today’s explorers become tomorrow’s inventors, creators, scientists and leaders. The Pawling Library has actively begun the search for our next Children’s Program Coordinator who will take our educational offerings for children, ages...
