Dutchess County to Host Special Needs Movie Day

Dutchess County to Host Special Needs Movie Day

Saturday, April 23rd at Roosevelt Cinemas in Hyde Park Poughkeepsie… As Dutchess County continues to celebrate April as Autism Awareness Month, County Executive Marcus Molinaro invites children with special needs, their families and support agencies to a free movie event on Saturday, April 23rd at 10 a.m. at the Roosevelt Cinemas, 4060 Albany Post Road (Route 9) in Hyde Park. The theater will adjust both lighting and sound to make the experience more enjoyable for children on the autism spectrum or who experience sensory issues. County Executive Molinaro said, “Our movie day is great example of how we in Dutchess County Government THINK DIFFERENTLY about our neighbors of all abilities – giving our children with special needs and their families a morning of stress-free fun in a welcoming environment. While a trip to the movie theater can be a challenge for families of children with special needs, we’re happy to provide them this opportunity to enjoy time with their loved ones in a supportive atmosphere.” Click here.

Project Do Something’s Inspirational Cards are a Hit with the Grateful Senior Community

So happy to see our teens making a difference in our community!  Last week, a man came in to express his gratitude for one of the Inspirational Cards made by the Project Do Something Teens. He regularly attends gatherings at The Friendship Center and he was thrilled to receive his card.  Our Young Adult Coordinator Nicole and the Project Do Something Teens made the cards and they were distributed by Evelina Simoes, the library’s Homebound Delivery Services Coordinator, on her visits to the Friendship Center and The Grand Rehabilitation Center last month. This man was so touched that the teens took the time to think of the seniors in the community that he had to come in and express his gratitude. He and his friends really appreciate the time and effort that the young adults put into making the cards for the seniors in our community.   Thank you to all our Project Do Something Teens for taking you time to make a difference!
