LED Upgrade

LED Upgrade

The Pawling Library recently upgraded all of our old fluorescent light bulbs with new, more energy efficient LED bulbs and ballasts. The new LED lights will use only 40% of the energy required by the old bulbs, which will reduce the library’s energy consumption and costs. The new LED bulbs also have a greater lifespan, so they’ll need to be replaced less frequently. The new bulbs are estimated to reduce the library’s carbon emissions by 11,500 lbs. annually. This project was funded by the library with a grant from NYSEG and RG&E’s Small Business Energy Efficiency Program. The investment in the new lights should be repaid in energy savings over the next 3 years. The old bulbs and ballasts were removed and recycled by the electricians who did the retrofitting.

Come See the Lego Museum on Display at the Library!

We’re so proud of Ms. Karen’s builders and engineers. They’ve been hard at work all summer building mazes, superheroes, and even Tooth-Gnasher Superflashes. Take a look at what they came up with! Our Books and Blocks builders made superheroes out of Lego® blocks after reading Ten Rules of Being a Superhero by Deb Pilutti, built their own versions of Tooth-Gnasher Superflash after reading Daniel Pinkwater’s book of the same name and ended the summer building some amazing trucks after reading Supertruck by Stephen Savage. Books and Blocks is our builder’s club for students entering grades K – 2. They begin by reading a book with a central theme, listening carefully for building ideas. Then, they put their imaginations into high gear to create different kinds of structures. Program challenges are designed to guide students to think about their structures and build within a specified criterion. Our Lego Engineers in Brilliant Brains and Blocks were challenged to create a simple machine, build a vehicle that could attach to a wire and travel 18 feet and last of all,...

Pawling Community Foundation Recreation White Paper and New Online Survey

Pawling Community Foundation Recreation White Paper and New Online Survey

The Pawling Community Foundation is seeking community feedback from residents and community organizations about recreation programs and possible improvements to various Town parklands, including Lakeside Park, Holmes Whaley Lake Civic Center, Holmes Pond and Edward R. Murrow Park. In January, the PCF formed a Parks Steering Committee, chaired by local resident Betsy Brockway, an experienced recreation and parks professional. The committee is asking local residents and organizations to complete an online survey. Residents can provide additional feedback in person through a series of community meetings. Residents are encouraged to review the Parks Steering Committee’s White Paper outlining possible projects and opportunities, and then answer the online survey, all located on the PCF website at www.pawlingfoundation.org. The three community meetings are scheduled at the following dates and locations: • Holmes Whaley Lake Civic Center, Tuesday, August 4 at 7 PM • Lakeside Park Lathrop Auditorium, Saturday, August 8 at 9 AM • Quaker Hill Country Club, late August If you are involved in a community organization, we would appreciate if you could forward this to your...
