Please Welcome Miss Christy and our Children’s Fall Programs

Please join me in welcoming the newest addition to the Pawling Library’s all-star team, Miss Christy. Miss Christy will be filling in for Miss Karen while she recovers from her eye surgery, and she’s put together a lot of great programs for the kids of Pawling including a Preschool Story Hour and some cool Book Clubs for School Age Kids. Miss Christy has worked in the library on the Military Base at West Point, and currently works with the boys in the library at the Trinity-Pawling School. I think her love for children’s literature will make her a great addition to our library. Lottery Registration for our Fall Programs will begin Monday, September 15th. You can pick up a registration form at the Circulation Desk or you can print one out here: Childrens Fall 2014 Program Registration Form When you return your registration form, you’ll pull a number, which will determine your ranking for Registration. All Pawling residents will be enrolled in our programs first, and then we will fill any leftover spaces in our programs with non-residents....

The Hike will be led by Harlem Valley AT Ambassador, Cassie Kessman, who will teach us about native plants, wild edibles, invasive species, & the AT. The Hike will be approximately two hours roundtrip. The Little Free Library will be located at the Telephone Pioneers Shelter near Cat Rocks, a popular destination for Day Hikers and a camping spot for through-hikers doing more of The Trail. The new backpacks, filled with maps, guides, and binoculars, can be borrowed  by  anyone with a library card, and they’re available at the Dover and Pawling Libraries. Thanks to the Harlem Valley Appalachian Trail Community for providing books and backpacks. We hope that the LFL and the Backpacks will promote use of the AT by people near and far, who can come to enjoy the Trail as an invaluable resource, and that hikers doing bigger pieces...

Spring Registration Made Easy

We know how stressful call in registration for our children’s programs is for everyone, so we are excited to let you know that we will be trying something new for registration this spring!  Our new director, Casey Conlin outlined a lottery registration process that was used at his previous library in Goshen, NY.  We decided to tweak it just a bit, and give it a try here.  It has several advantages: 1.  No more registration times to remember…or forget! 2.  A more flexible range of dates to register. 3,  No wating on the phone or in person. 4.  Time to thoughtfully complete your registration so your family can take advantage of all we have to offer.  No more rushing! Doesn’t it sound too good to be true!  Keep on reading to find out how it works!
