Ballet Hispánico Virtual Performance for Young People

A premier NYC dance company and the largest Latinx cultural organization in the United States, “Ballet Hispánico brings communities together to celebrate and explore Latino cultures through innovative dance productions, transformative dance training, and enduring community engagement experiences.” The live, virtual event will take audiences on a guided journey through Latinx dance and culture. Have you visited our StoryWalk®?

Have you visited the StoryWalk® set up at Pawling Recreation’s Lakeside Park? Take a family walk and read along to Hiking Day by Anne Rockwell. If you do visit, please don’t forget to leave us a message in our tracking book. And if you come across any damage or missing pages, please contact the library at 845-855-3444 or children@pawlinglibrary.org to let us know! Thank you to Town of Pawling Recreation Department and the Mid-Hudson Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club for partnering with us on this project. Please note that this StoryWalk will be on display until 12/17/21. The program will return with a new story in 2022! The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.

Socially Distant Santa and Mrs. Claus

December 11th, 2021, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, by 10 minute appointment Get ready to bundle up and share your wish lists! Our annual visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus is ON! To keep all involved as safe as possible, families will visit outside under a tent, one at time, while Santa and Mrs. Claus stay inside and chat through an open window. This set-up was a huge hit last year and we know Santa and Mrs. Claus look forward to visiting Pawling.  Registration for 10 minute windows is highly recommended, as walk-ins will be permitted only as space is available. Make Gel Stars

This October, we’re hosting some exciting after school programming for youth ages 6-10! Mad Science: Gel Creators (Ages 6-10 years) Thursday, 10/28, 4:00-5:00 PM – Digital/Kit Learn about gels & how they are made as we do science together over Zoom. Harden liquids like magic and show off your creations to other kids. Supplies and instructions will be provided, though caregiver supervision is recommended, especially for developing readers. Join our Fall Children’s Programs

The schedule for children’s programs for September – November is now available. Registration is also open now. This Fall, we’re offering in-person, digital, and take home kit programs for chlidren ages birth – elementary school. Join anytime–registration is rolling, but enrollment is first come, first served. Meet a Superhero!

Avengers, assemble! Captain Marvel will be stopping by our Facebook Live storytime group today, Thursday, 8/12/21 at 4:30 PM EST to share stories about her adventures and chat with families about her awesome superhero life! Beat the heat inside as Captain Marvel responds to children’s questions and comments by name! Can’t make the live show? A recording will be available in the storytime group shortly after the airing. This program is part of our Mid-Hudson Library System Princess and Superhero storytime series. The next special guests will be Supergirl on September 9th and Belle from Beauty and the Beast on October 14. Thank you to our partner libraries and Parties with Character for making this program series accessible for our community.

Summer Reading Update: Almost at Community Goal!

The Tails and Tales Summer Reading Challenge is well underway. In fact, we have almost met our community goal!  With a group total of 19,708 minutes, we need just a little more help to earn our new kid’s area play set. Here are the team standings: Image is of three cats looking at a fishbowl. The colors on their tails show how much progress each team has made logging reading time. From left to right the cats are adults, kids, and teens. First Place: Kids (12, 214 minutes) Second Place: Adults (6,975 minutes) Third Place: Teens (519 minutes) Great things happen when we work together! When we hit 20,000, we will earn our community prize, plus new raffle prizes will be added to the pot for you to win, like gift cards to McKinney and Doyle. The more you read, the more you earn, including free books to keep! Plus, the winning team will earn bragging rights and the Summer Reading Champions Crown. Registration Open: Children’s Summer Programs

Registration is now open for all of our children’s summer programming. Our Children’s department hosts programming for children and families from birth through elementary school, all free, educationally focused, and fun! This summer, our programming slate includes in-person programming, take home activity kits, and digital events. Ms. Neena and Ms. Carla are especially excited about the return of Pre-K Science Club and our new Dog Tales reading program with therapy dog, Harper. Tails and Tales Summer Learning Challenge Are you looking for a way to keep yourself or your family engaged in reading over the summer break? Curious about how you can make a difference in our community without leaving home? Maybe you’re competitive and really want to win prizes or earn brag tags to show off your reading progress. Whatever your motivation, our summer reading program can meet your needs! Want competition? Minutes read between June 21 and August 21 will be logged for three teams, the kids, teens, and adults! The team that reads the most minutes will be crowned Summer Reading Champions, and earn extra raffle tickets for the awesome prizes we’re giving away, like a Kindle Fire and local gift cards. Youth readers will also earn brag tags and prizes like tickets to Danbury Westerners games and books. Want to help the community? Upcoming Youth Volunteer Opportunities

This summer, get involved in our community! Below are library volunteering opportunities for kids and teens. Included: Book Buddy Volunteers needed, Reading as service!, Garden Volunteering, and Project Do Something   Become a Book Buddy! For ages 11- 20 We are currently accepting volunteer applications for our Book Buddy program. Teens and tweens ages 11-18 can apply to become reading buddies to our community’s younger, developing readers. Volunteers will be paired with an elementary aged student, whom they will assist in practicing their reading skills, as well as read aloud to. Schedule: Virtually over Zoom, Mondays, 7/12-8/21, 2:20 – 3:00 PM Applicants need strong reading skills and to be available for at least three of the six dates of the program. A parent or guardian’s permission is needed to complete the application. The application is open now.
