REVEAL! Phil’s New Look

Wow! What a vote this week! Teen Coordinator, Phil Prout, let Pawling vote for what historical style he should use for his disguise as he heads back in time to visit his Pawling relatives from the 1800s.  Since there were two winning looks, Phil did them both! Check out our video to see Phil’s new look.   Want to vote for what should happen next? Visit https://www.pawlingfreelibrary.org/summer-reading-challenge/ to vote in this week’s choose your own adventure, where YOU decide what special and unique piece of art Donald Partelow creates. Donald serves as the Adult Program Coordinator at our library, and recently illustrated Claudine: A Fairy Tale for Exceptional Grown Ups. One lucky voter will also win a gift certificate to The Book Cove.

REVEAL! Condiment Conundrum

We let Pawling decide what should be in the messy balloons that our mess monsters threw at Ms. Carla as part of our 2020 Imagine Your Story Summer Reading Program. The winner was… condiment filled balloons! So check out the mess as Ms. Carla gets pelted with eggs, sprinkles, jelly, and more! Want to vote for what should happen next? Visit https://www.pawlingfreelibrary.org/summer-reading-challenge/ to vote in this week’s choose your own adventure, where YOU decide how Teen Coordinator, Phil Prout, changes up his giant beard and mustache. One lucky voter will also win a gift certificate to Vinny’s Deli.

Online Superhero Escape the Room

It’s time! Our online Superhero Escape Room is ready and waiting to be solved. All ages welcome to play, though the reading level of this escape room may be difficult for developing readers, like those in Kindergarten-second grade. These ages may benefit from the help of a more advanced reader, like an older sibling or adult helper. The questions and challenges, though, they should all be able to manage on their own! Play this escape room any time online between now and the end of the summer. We hope you enjoy it! Quick play tips: We recommend opening each challenge in a new tab and filling out the answer form as you go OR making sure you leave the results of each challenge open after completing it, so you can answer all the questions to escape at the end with ease. Alternatively, you can write down the answers on a piece of paper as you go along and come back to your notes when finished and submitting the answer form. Follow the link to play: https://sites.google.com/pawlinglibrary.org/pawlinglibraryescapetheroom/home

Volunteer Opportunities for Teens/Tweens

Volunteer Opportunities for Teens/Tweens There are currently two types of volunteer positions open for ages 11-18–book buddies and garden volunteers. Book Buddies, or our Teen Buddy Book Club, is a program that pairs kids one-on-one with a teen role model. These volunteers spend time virtually helping their buddy gain confidence reading, while they practice their literacy skills and get to know them. For more information, visit https://www.pawlingfreelibrary.org/community-service/   Garden Volunteers tend to the teen garden at the library, but do so on their own schedule, without others around. Possible responsibilities include watering, checking nitrogen levels, and weeding. All volunteers will be able to take vegetables home! Find out more at  https://www.pawlingfreelibrary.org/teenprograms/ As we continue our reopening process, additional volunteering opportunities will be considered. We hope to have volunteers helping in additional children’s programs regularly as soon as it is safe and we are allowed.   Leadership Interns: Because we are hosting summer programming virtually and have to limit the number of people in our building, the library is not able to hire Leadership Interns this summer. Leadership interns will return...

Story Time Bites

Join Ms. Neena anywhere, anytime for rhymes and stories! We miss our weekly classes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. We invite families to watch our Story Time Bites together for a taste of story time at home. Story Time Bites are short videos featuring one rhyme, story, or song. They aim to build early literacy skills and give kids a taste of their regular routine back. To keep their attention, we’ve made them short and quick. Check out the first video here and visit our story time bites page for more. Closed captions are available. We’re taking suggestions! If your family has a favorite story time song or rhyme, let us know and we’ll do our best to make it available.
